Fierce Valley Roller Girls were founded in November 2010 by Kat Lowe (Grizabelta), Chris Walker (Kirk Jammett), and Marco Vezzani (V for Vienetta). To paraphrase the ‘About Us’ section on the FVRG website, the trio made it their mission to bring roller derby to the Forth Valley as they had seen the sport explode across Scotland, the UK and Europe and wanted to be involved.
FVRG are Scotland’s 6th roller derby league. Run as a not-for-profit sports club, the team are keen to show that fitness can be fun, friendly and exciting – and that women and men of any age (well, over 18) and from any background can be involved.
Currently, FVRG train in The Mariner Centre, Falkirk on Sundays from 11:15am, and in Grangemouth Sports Complex on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9pm. New skaters are advised to apply for a place in the Fresh Meat programme by filling out the online application form, and then will be kept informed as to when the next session is. As well as budding roller girls, anyone interested in becoming a Non Skating Official (NSO), a referee or even an announcer are welcome to come along to the Fresh Meat sessions to meet the team and see how they can be involved.
